Wind circulating around the planet 60 times faster than the planet itself rotates.
Scientists using the probe Venus Express was the first to describe the wind structure of the upper layers of clouds on the night side of Venus.
It turned out that in the atmosphere of Venus is dominated by strong winds that circulate around the planet 60 times faster than the planet itself rotates.
This phenomenon is called “superpresence”. His reasons remain unknown to scientists.
“We have spent decades studying these supervisee, tracking, as the upper clouds move to the day side of Venus is clearly visible on the images obtained in ultraviolet light. However, our models of Venus are not yet able to reproduce this superprestige, it is clearly evident that we might have missed some parts of this puzzle,” says astrophysicist Xavier Peralta from the Japanese aerospace exploration Agency (JAXA).
Images that were made using a probe, revealed that superprestige on the night side of the planet is more disorderly and chaotic than on the day side of the planet. Clouds on the night side of Venus were more long, wavy, often irregular or elongated shape. The researchers note that this is a surprising result, which will cause “to revise our models of Venus”.
“The first time we were able to describe how the atmosphere circulates on the night side of Venus on a global scale. While the circulation of the atmosphere on the daylight side of the planet widely studied, we still have much to learn about the night side,” adds Peralta.
