The bill was supported by 240 deputies.
Parliament supported the bill № 7064 on the prevention of deaths on the roads. “For” vote of 240 deputies.
The bill would amend the criminal code a new article No. 286-1 violation of traffic rules-drunk man. So, if the drunk driver violated traffic rules and this resulted in heavy bodily injury of the victim, the death of a person or a few people, proposes a punishment of deprivation of liberty for a term of 8-10 years with deprivation of the right to operate for a period of 10 years.
If, despite the ban, the man got behind the wheel of the car, he faces imprisonment for a term of 5 years with deprivation of the right to operate for life.
The law “On fundamentals of national security of Ukraine” intend to include in the list of threats of national security item “ineffectiveness of the state policy on road safety”, and the list of the main directions of state policy to strengthen the prevention of accidents on the roads.
The authors of the document in the explanatory Memorandum claim that in Ukraine 37% of the total number of road accident crashes involving drunk drivers.
