Director Sergei Life – 33 years, according to cinematic standards, it is “still a kid”. At the same time its a scandalous (in Novokuznetsk trying to get ban to show) “torture” Thriller “the Siberian Ripper” he took off when I was younger, in 2014. And with all the obvious and understandable (with a budget of 130 thousand rubles, “actors” off the street, etc.) faults, this film shows that his Creator – the man is very talented. “Life” is, by the way, a pseudonym. However Sergei himself – who is now studying at the higher school of scriptwriters and Directors of Lenfilm admits that in 16 years (!) this nickname has to stick. Zone Horror spoke with a young filmmaker about how to shoot for pennies a bloody Thriller, to him was not shame, but also about maniacs, censorship and much more.
Of course, the main question – what inspired this film?
When I learned about this story in me everything turned upside down. The sense of injustice haunted – no innocent children died a horrible death, while in the neighboring apartments one slept, the usual house was in the center of the city, and the police could not find the culprit. Why was he released after the first brutal murder… questions, Questions, questions…
The idea to film the event came from. Friends and acquaintances tried to dissuade, but it was clear – it is worthy of the big screen. Once the reservation – not for worship – only to prevent. That is why I do not have the names of a maniac, no names of victims. The film begins and ends with the main character that at least in the movie necessarily had to survive.
Close geographical position allows to visit the scene to feel the atmosphere, to stand, to think, to reflect. And of course add reality – building, Elevator, river – valuable film footage.
Have you watched any foreign films similar plan (biopic maniacs, tortured porn movies), was inspired to do some of them?
Such foreign films look very rarely are afraid to fall under their influence as a Director. I remember when I started to write the script, I saw “Henry: portrait of a serial killer” – and from there moved on the frame looking at myself in the mirror maniac. In addition, like first of all to remove drama, Thriller, not a biopic or just a mess. This story is quite self-sufficient of inspiration in those movies did not have to search.

What are the difficulties faced while filming?
As the shooting was planned at the place of residence of the Director (Biysk), the difficulties were obvious – lack of money, lack of everything necessary and the lack of actors. The search for actors at the drama theatre and other theatres gave no results. The theme of the film about a serial killer (or victim) was not taken seriously, besides the “star” the employment of theater-goers stretched out would be shooting or even ripped off. Was made the only right decision in this situation is to find willing and try to blind from them the likeness of the actors. The same goes for budget – could only look on your pocket. And it’s not genre – cinema in the province cannot be removed, request it is possible to cause only sneers.
The crumbs were collected props, all the necessary and new actors from the streets. Remembering all the difficulties we can safely say the film turned out to be the best of what was.
The film was made in 2014, but to the viewer it was only in 2017. worth the time?
The main shooting took place in the fall of 2014. A fully completed on 1 June 2015. The installation was in parallel with the filming below, in which case, it was possible to shoot the necessary footage. To the extent possible, subject to availability at time and place of the Assembly of the picture. In the spring of 2016 premiere in Novosibirsk in one of the small cinemas. Internet it was decided to pay a year – that’s what’s missing from modern movies – the movie ought to “lie down”, this allows you to make final improvements to correct deficiencies.
Our last touch was made within six months after the main installation is the inscription at the end of the film on the total number of victims of a cannibal. It would seem that the obvious right thing, and thought after a while.

Heard that after the release of pictures you have problems someone protested, demanding that the movie was banned etc.. Tell me more about that.
Picture want to ban those who have not watched, or rewinding, I’m sure. And in fact, these “fighters for justice, fighters against violence” are cowards. They are afraid to tell myself that it’s not fiction, it is part of society, reflection, whacky form.
To avoid predators, they need to catch in real life. Maniacs are not watching the film, and nedopoluchit attention and love in childhood. Or (and this is a real case) it is not necessary to drive the child to the morgue and be done with this autopsy…
We all understand that this is a film, history, recreated with the help of actors. Far more dangerous documentaries with real footage of severed body parts.
Residents of Novokuznetsk against the film… and I’m against residents of Novokuznetsk, which had “grown” maniac, which had a negative impact on my attitude…
That is why petitions and such newfangled tricks cause only a smile.
“SP” is essentially tortured porn, “torture” movie. As well as exploitation in the sense that you, of course, does exploit violence and the infamous true story of a maniac cannibal. Both of these directions, subgenre, something to hide, are considered “third-rate”, not worthy of attention, the trash that does not prevent them to exist in the Western kin of your specialized niche, walk on genre festivals, to come out on DVD and services like video-on-demand. How do you think? See where the spot “SP” in film as art and cinema as industry?
SP for me first of all, again, it’s a drama, a profound social tragedy. Explotan, and the other is a form, the forms may be different. In this case, I felt that the form should be bloody, this is a must see and hear. Such an abomination is no other way to pass. A maniac and a cannibal is an abomination. What will be the film in history – something meaningful or sink into summer – time will tell. I was honest with myself, I’m not ashamed of this film is what really important.Cm. also:

Rumours – seems to have caught the eye of a teaser poster for the sequel, “Ripper 2”. Are you really going to release this or is it nothing more than someone’s mischief?
The second part to be! It’s only a matter of time and budget. There is another real and untold history about the slave owner Comyn, who dug a bunker under a cooperative garage, kept there and tortured slaves. We project the hero from the first part to this story (as if it was re-released).
What inspires me is a difficult task – to make the second part better than the first. Better in every way – script, acting, picture quality, sound quality, the soundtrack etc.. it is Clear that it needs a much bigger budget (2 million rubles), otherwise it will be marking time.
This idea originated during the filming of the first part. However, only recently the thought came as to present a narrative like “that maniac came again and started killing” is not fired. But I will not disclose, will be a surprise then.
To remove cheap, but enough quality – special ability, which, I think, very valuable in our reality – after all in Russia from the commercial point of view makes no sense to spend huge budgets. In this regard, it is curious or turned on your film the attention of some serious people in our movie, whether you some may be producers with some offers.
No proposals have yet been received. And I doubt that will do – too bloody form of the movie, this we are not removed. Exception can be called the series “Method”, but I Tsekalo not yet (laughs).
If such proposals were received – what would a horror movie (we, of course, primarily interested in this genre) in the presence of a sane budget (not a million dollars, but not 130 thousand rubles and more) would you like to remove?
