History
Houska castle was built in the late 13th century, king Premysl. Before that, there was a wooden castle, which the Prince had built for his son Hosaka from whose name came the name of the castle. This building has repeatedly changed its purpose: it was, and archive library, and the German military headquarters and the summer residence of the government. In the late 90-ies of the castle was restored and opened to visitors by new owners. It would seem that this story does not cause a tingling on the skin and absolutely not scary. But it’s the legends that enveloped the ancient castle.

Locals love to talk about the fact that in the rock there was a huge crack from which our world came demons and scary creatures. There are constantly heard strange sounds, and no one knew whether the hole bottom. It is said that once one criminal is offered a deal: he would descend on a rope into the well and tell me what you saw, and in return will give him freedom. As soon as the man was lowered into devil’s gorge, he began to wildly shout and beg to be pulled. When the people saw the offender, they stirred the hair on the head — it for a couple of minutes was gray, his face was covered with wrinkles, and the rope was impregnated with sulphur. Shortly after this event, the man died from the strange disease.
After this incident the king decided to fill the split in the rock to close the gate to hell. But no matter how many stones and sand people are not poured, the hole still remained. To somehow stop the appearance of strange creatures, the locals took as much as three years. After such manipulations in the County it was very difficult to find even a simple rock, after all, they went straight into a bottomless pit. To avoid repetition of this history, over the split built a chapel in which to go today. On the walls of the chapel you can see many frescoes, especially the image of the fighting angels and demons. The Central figure is the Archangel Michael and the last judgment. Around her the castle was built, the structure of which still raises many questions.
All the walls and towers of the castle Houska has been turned in, which suggests that people were not protected from external and internal enemies. Until now, scientists cannot find an explanation for why this building was built there. It is in the mountains, surrounded by forest. Houska castle is located very far from the borders and from sources of water. Next to him there are no settlements, mountains and forest. Some say that perhaps the king loved the solitude. He was afraid for his treasures, so he decided to protect them from possible robbers. There is a theory that when you try to attack the door of the castle opened, and the attackers could easily get in. But they have not been able to get out again.
