The President introduced a bill on deprivation of citizenship of officials with dual citizenship.
To the Verkhovna Rada draft law on the deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship those officials who voluntarily acquired citizenship of another state. This was on the sidelines of the Parliament said the President’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada Arthur Gerasimov.
He noted that the March 13, Poroshenko Rada was filed and identified as urgent bill, which concerns address issues with dual citizenship.
“The President believes that today this issue should be clearly resolved and situations that occur that officials, especially senior managers, say they have 2, 3 and more passports are unacceptable,” – said Gerasimov.
He explained that this law will be established that the person has voluntarily obtained foreign citizenship of another state will be considered as subject to the requirement to withdraw Ukrainian citizenship. Also, the bill specifies grounds for loss of citizenship of Ukraine.
“For example, such a base will now be considered if the person has voluntarily obtained the citizenship of a foreign country has not handed over the passport, or when acquiring the citizenship of Ukraine he also in a certain period of time has not handed over the passport of another country,” – said Gerasimov.
He added that it will affect only those officials who have voluntarily acquired citizenship of another state, that is, the bill does not apply to citizens in the Crimea.
