New rate of import duties on some American goods will be 15 and 25%.
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada Chrystia Freeland said that the country will impose retaliatory duties against the United States of America (USA) from 1 July 2018.
“We’re not going for the escalation, but will not retreat,” said Freeland. According to her, the rate of new import duties on some American goods will be 15 and 25%. In particular, we are talking about yogurt, coffee, toilet paper and sleeping bags. The total volume of imported goods, which would affect the new duties will amount to 12.6 billion dollars.
We will remind, the European Commission on June 20 adopted a resolution on introduction of additional 25% duties on imports from the United States in response to a similar decision of the us administration.
So, the President of the United States of America (USA), Donald trump had previously expressed the opinion that Canada should not raise tariffs in response to trade restrictions Washington, because the country has a high trade surplus with the United States.
