The bill provides for the consolidation on the legislative level of the sanctions imposed by Executive orders of Barack Obama.

Voted for by 98 senators and only two were against.
On the eve of the U.S. Senate has approved an amendment to expand sanctions against Russia. It was noted, “the amendment of the Russian Federation will be attached to the pending bill on sanctions against Iran”.
The bill provides for a legal level of sanctions imposed by the decrees of the former President of the United States Barack Obama in connection with the conflict in the Donbas and the annexation of Crimea by Russia.
There are also sanctions against Russian citizens suspected of cyber attacks on the political institutions of the United States.
In addition, the bill included a clause, according to which the United States will continue to oppose the implementation of the project Nord stream 2 and attach high priority to the export of American raw materials to the European markets.
