According to Slobodyan, exercises “West-2017” Russia will use to strengthen its positions in Belarus
Forces that Russia has accumulated for the participation in the exercises “West-2017”, is not enough for incursion into the territory of Ukraine. This was stated by the speaker of the State border service of Ukraine Oleg Slobodyan.
“I don’t think that Putin is preparing to open a new front. Even in order to open a new front to the forces that they accumulate in Belarus, they will not be sufficient for offensive operations, if we are talking about Ukraine. Although we should not forget about the Baltic States. At the same time, Russia always does more than he says. Very often does not what to announce,” said he.
According to Slobodyan, these exercises Russia will use to strengthen its positions in Belarus. “It is possible that on a rotating basis, these units will remain there. And, of course, they will use these teachings in order to, perhaps, test our responses to conduct such large-scale events near the Northern borders, ” he said.
However, he agreed with those experts who are of the opinion that the armed forces of the Russian Federation, was originally supposed to take part in the exercises will actually be more.
“There are certain points which indicate that vigilance not to lose. And measures to test possible scenarios counter we are working not only independently,” – said Slobodyan.
