The Empire Samsung heir Lee Jae-Yong found guilty of corruption and breach of trust.
The district court in Seoul on Friday, August 25, sentenced the actual head of the South Korean Samsung group Lee Jae-Yong to five years in prison. 49-year-old Vice President of Samsung Electronics was found guilty of bribery, breach of trust and other crimes.
The trial of Lee Jae Yung, who is considered heir to the Samsung Empire, was associated with charges of corruption brought against Choi sung-SIL – a close friend of former South Korean President Park Geun-Hye.
According to the indictment, Samsung was paying large sums of money to organizations led by Choi sung-SIL. In exchange, the company was provided political support for the merger of two subsidiaries of Samsung.
Earlier, the court in South Korea sentenced Choi sung-SIL, a longtime friend and counselor to former President of South Korea was at the center of a corruption scandal, to three years in prison on charges of abuse of power.
