Putin said that Russia is focused on re-equipping the troops to strengthen the border with Ukraine.
Russia conducts re-equipment of the troops because of the need to strengthen the Arctic territory and borders in the West, and also in connection with the actions of videoconferencing in Syria, said President Vladimir Putin at a meeting on the state defense order.
“Combat experience gained during the operation in the Syrian Arab Republic, the need to strengthen the Arctic territories and borders in the West and southwest demanded the refinement of approaches for upgrading troops,” — said Putin.
The President noted that in 2016, the state defense order was made on 97% of the troops got more than 5.6 thousand kinds of modern weapons and about three thousand renovated and modernized samples of military and special equipment. This would bring a modern fleet of vehicles in parts of constant readiness to 58%. This year the figure is expected to reach 62%, said the head of state.
