New Renault Megane RS Trophy-R is equipped with a 1.8-liter turbo engine from the regular Megane RS Trophy.
Track hatchback Renault Megane RS Trophy-R new generation has set another record in Nurburgring — the car drove the track in 7 minutes 40,100 seconds, nearly four seconds, improving the achievement of Honda Civic Type R.
The unit produces 300 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque. Different RS Trophy-R in more extreme chassis settings, changed aerodynamics and 130 kg of reduced mass. The dynamic characteristics of the hot-hatch not disclosed — RS Trophy to “hundreds” accelerates in 4.7 seconds and reaches 270 kilometers per hour.
Sales of Renault Megane RS Trophy-R will begin before the end of this year. The model will be a limited edition of several hundred copies. The car is built by Renault Sport in cooperation with the brand partners: Akrapovič, Brembo, Bridgestone, Öhlins and Sabelt.
Previous Nurburgring record for FWD production cars belonged to Honda Civic Type R. the 320-horsepower hatchback drove the “North loop” for 7 minutes, 43.8 seconds. From zero to “hundreds” of Civic Type R can accelerate in 5.7 seconds. It has a top speed 272 kilometers per hour.
