A substance found in green tea, can be used to treat two types of skin cancer, scientists say.
However, we are not talking about just drinking tea! The proportion of this substance in the tea is negligible to influence the consumption of tea.
But when applying it to the cancer cells in the lab, it works impressively! Two-thirds of the tumors shrank or disappeared in the course of the experiment, conducted by researchers from the universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, which conducted the study.
A substance called takapihalta gallate (EGCG), it has no side effects and does not affect other cells or tissues adjacent to the tumor.17
The tests were carried out on two types of skin cancer: squamous cell carcinoma, resulting in the formation of scales on the surface of the skin and melanoma which often develops in people who have moles on the skin.
In both studies, 40 percent of tumors vanished, while 30 percent of tumors in squamous cell carcinoma and 20% in melanoma cases shrank in size.
Another 10 percent of tumors — melanoma stopped growing. “These are very encouraging results which we hope will pave the way for new and effective cancer treatments” — writing inspired by the authors of the study in the medical journal Nanomedicine.
