At the Geneva motor show Honda unveiled the production version of the hot Civic Type R, which, as promised in Paris, where he exhibited a prototype close to production model, “has received a more subtle and Mature approach to the design, replacing the extreme style prototype”.
Sports car based on the hatchback Civic 10th generation, will go on sale this summer with a price in the UK from 32 000 pounds.
The new architecture has allowed us to supply hot model 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC four-cylinder that develops 316 HP (10 HP more than the version of the previous generation) and 400 Nm of torque transferred to the front wheels via a new six-speed manual gearbox.
With this car Honda is going to return a record lap Nurburgring highway for front-drive cars, which now holds the Volkswagen Golf Clubsport’s with a time of 7 minutes 49 seconds, which is 1.4 seconds faster than the previous Civic Type R.
According to representatives of the Japanese automaker, the four-wheel drive was never even considered as an option, despite the use of its competition in the Ford Focus RS and VW Golf R. the Dynamic characteristics of not yet announced, but we can expect the new model will be quicker than the previous version.
In an effort to increase the appeal of the Type R, Honda has equipped the car new adaptive dampers and switching the driving modes (Comfort, Sport and track-focused “R+”), which change the steering settings, throttle response and gearbox. Another novelty was the option to automatically adjust the engine speed when downshifting to smooth out the switching itself while maintaining momentum.
Additional strengthening of the chassis allowed to increase torsional rigidity by 38% and due to some changes in the layout managed to achieve a more rational distribution of weight. Pendant is presented by MacPherson struts front and multi-lever design with strengthened rear levers. One of the features carried forward from the outgoing model are the Brembo brakes.
