Colorful parade opens flower festival.
In the Colombian city of Medellin hosts a traditional parade in honor of the opening of the flower festival. The participants are on the back of the so-called “silleteros” – floral composition, which can weigh 100 pounds.
The tradition in such a way to carry heavy loads came here in the XIX century from the nearby town of Santa Elena. The locals there were on the backs of food products, flowers and even sick people.
And the first such festival was held in 1957 to emphasize the importance of growing flowers in the region.
