Sofia and Istanbul will be connected to the new passenger train

The first passenger train will depart from Sofia to Istanbul in the evening of 20 February.

Monday between Sofia and Istanbul will be running the trains. This became possible after the reconstruction of railway lines on the territory of Turkey and construction of the border crossing Kapakule. Reconstruction continued in 2014.

The first train Istanbul‑Sofya starts Ekspresi from Istanbul Halkali station at 22:40 local time on 20 February, reports the Anadolu news Agency.

Journey time is 9 hours and 50 minutes. The distance between the cities is just over 500 kilometers.

The train from Istanbul to Sofia will be added additional cars for communication with Bucharest and Belgrade.
