Named the main danger of insomnia

Insomnia can cause in the future Alzheimer’s disease.

Scientists from the United States said that poor sleep quality at night may be a harbinger of the degradation of the brain. Experts have found that people who often complain about their sleep, to a much greater extent than the others, situated to the appearance of their dementia.

The authors of this study were scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They stated that there is a relationship between a bad night’s sleep and an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease in the future.

“We found that people who often suffer from poor sleep quality and daytime sleepiness, have in the cerebrospinal fluid, which is present in the spine and brain, more biological characteristics indicating susceptibility to Alzheimer’s disease. Biological markers include the presence of amyloid protein, Tau protein, and the damage to brain cells and high levels of inflammation in the brain,” the researchers reported.

In particular, the scientists were able to notice that in the brain of people who have complained about the inability to quickly fall asleep and night waking, accumulate the toxic molecule that is able to play a fatal role in the development of dementia. In people with normal sleep the brain is able to clear ourselves from these undesirable components. But in case of problems, typical for insomnia, brain activity changes, and toxins can be “stuck” in the brain.

Alzheimer’s is an incurable brain disease, the most common type of dementia also known as senile dementia. Usually this disease develops after 50 years, but there are cases of diagnosis at an earlier age.

For this disease characterized by massive death of brain cells, which leads to its reduction in size and contributes to the total disability of a person: he becomes unable to care for self, unable to walk, sit and even to chew and swallow food.
