The U.S. government intends to seize 36-story skyscraper on 5th Avenue in new York, a secret whose owner, according to us prosecutors, is the Iranian government.
Attorney for the southern district of new York preet Bharara said that it would be “the largest ever confiscation related to terrorism.”
U.S. district judge Katherine Forrest issued a decision on the confiscation of the building for violation of the owners of the sanctions imposed against Iran, as well as laws against money-laundering.
After the confiscation, the authorities of new York intend to sell the skyscraper. Funds received after the sale of the confiscated building, it will go to compensate the “victims of Iranian terrorism”.
A few years ago the building was estimated at $97 million, according to the New York Daily News. However, real estate experts believe that at the present time, the building could fetch between $500 million to $750 million on strong demand for offices in Manhattan.
