American scientists claim that stress in the workplace causes a woman to have more than usual.
They emphasize that this effect persists not only during the action of the irritating factor, but some time after his disappearance.
Scientists under the leadership of Laura Cusano Klein from the University of Pennsylvania, gave subjects various tasks within 25 minutes, while for some of them introduced an additional distraction – record normal office sounds like the telephone phone calls or work on a typewriter with loudness of 108 decibels.
After that, everyone was given a 12 minute break – leave them alone with a magazine, water and a tray of snacks – cheese, chips, chocolate, popcorn, pretzels and candy.
Then they were again asked to perform a test to find a way through the maze that is specially designed to solution. The stress level was reflected in what foods chose women how they felt.
As it turned out, frustrated noise, the subjects ate 65 to 70 grams of the fatty snacks during the break, twice as many as those who passed the first part of the test in silence.
In addition, during the break they have continued to have high blood pressure and rapid pulse, they quickly abandoned attempts to find a way out of the maze.
According to Klein, a similar behavior can be observed on weekends, when after a hard working week people are more likely to abuse alcohol or violate the diet. She also noted that the pattern in the experiment was not traced in men – those in any case ate about 40 grams of fatty snacks, regardless of stress levels.
