The heating season in Ukraine is under threat because of possible cyber attacks on the energy infrastructure of the country. This is one of the most serious risks.
This opinion was expressed by a leading researcher at the National Institute for strategic studies Gennady Ryabtsev.
“I would consider the risk associated with the danger of cyber attacks on our power systems, we, in principle, routinely,” – said Ryabtsev.
So, he added that for the last 2 years on infrastructure of Ukraine there were at least three massive cyber-attacks. We are talking about the attack on a number of Ukrainian oblenergos 23 Dec 2015; hacking into web resources of state bodies on 16 December 2016 and the attack of the virus Petya 27 June 2017, which have suffered energy infrastructure of the country.
“The impression is that it was a training attack to find weak points and preparing to time “H” to some massive complex cyber attacks with simultaneous effects on different power system. First of all, on the United energy system of Ukraine”, – said the scientist.
He added that the risk also transmission system and the system of technological communication.
