The effect of sugar on brain comparable to chronic stress.

Scientists tested the effect on the example of rodents. Newborn animals were divided into two groups, and each group into two subgroups.
The first group in the first nine days were growing under stress. The second sat quietly in the cage. Half of the animals in each group is actively fed sugar, and the other is a balanced diet. After 15 weeks, rats who ate sweets and were not subjected to stress, the hippocampus (an important region of the brain) had the same detrimental changes, and in rats post-stress.
But the stress and sugar together gave the most powerful negative effect on what is clearly indicative of pathological changes in the hippocampus (the stress hormone – cortisol – literally kill nerve cells). The absence of stress and normal diet was provided for the preservation of brain health.
Experts emphasize that it is necessary to strictly limit the intake of sugar. The share of calories from sugar should not exceed 10% of the total daily calories. In one teaspoon of sugar contains 25-30 calories. Based on this, for women a maximum of 6-7 teaspoons of sugar, and for men 9 teaspoons.
