Scientists told about the dangers of the incorrect application of sunscreen

Many people do not apply the cream to the tenth part of the face

For anybody not a secret that excessive sun exposure harms the skin and can lead to cancer. However, not everyone knows about what consequences may result from improper application of sunscreen.

The researchers took images of the volunteers using a UV-sensitive camera, to show how their faces were covered with sunscreen.

Doctors found that many people do not apply the cream to the tenth part of the face (in particular we are talking about the eyelids), despite the fact that this is the most common area for skin cancer treatment.

Experts warn that the rejection of a thorough application of sunscreen puts lives at risk. More than 90% of basal cell carcinomas – the most common type of skin cancer occur on the head or neck. And on the eyelids appears 5 to 10 percent of all skin cancers.

The scientists noted that even when the participants talked about skin cancer of the eyelids, there was a small improvement in the application, and almost eight percent of individuals were still left unprotected.

As a result, the experts said that people should take extra precautions, such as wearing sunglasses.

“The concern is that people are so hard to apply sunscreen to their face, an area that is particularly exposed to the risk of skin cancer due to the amount of solar radiation that they receive. Therefore, we insist on the importance of sunglasses. Most people believe that sunglasses are designed to protect the eyes, particularly the cornea from UV damage and to facilitate observation under bright sunlight. However, they are doing more than that, they also protect the skin subjected to high skin cancer,” said Dr. Kevin Hamill, one of the researchers.
