Helping Ukraine is a long – term issue for NATO. This was stated by the assistant Secretary-General of NATO Sorin Dumitru Ducaru at the ceremonial meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Charter on a distinctive partnership between Ukraine and North Atlantic Treaty Organization on Monday, 3 July.
“We are providing assistance to Ukraine is a long – term issue, we want to see success of Ukraine’s transition to a stable democracy,” he said.
According to Ducaru, Moscow is waging against Ukraine is not just a classical military aggression, but the modern hybrid warfare.
“Ukraine and NATO have never been so close politically and militarily, and in terms of practical cooperation, NATO supports peaceful solution to the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, fully respecting Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
Ducaru also noted that the Alliance supports the framework of the Commission Ukraine-NATO, and practical assistance, NATO carried out several trust funds. “In fact, in recent years Ukraine has become the largest beneficiary of the NATO program “Science for peace and security”, beating Russia, which was on this place before 2014″, – he stressed.
NATO approved a package of assistance to Ukraine, said Ducaru, adding that the Alliance now define “those areas where we can and must do more.”
