German Chancellor Angela Merkel has criticized new U.S. sanctions against Russia. This was stated by the representative of the German government Steffen Seibert.
On the eve the U.S. Senate passed a bill on toughening sanctions against Russia, which included a clause, according to which Washington continues to oppose the implementation of the project Nord stream-2.
According to Seibert, Merkel called the move of the Senate “strange”, stressing that the European economy should not suffer from sanctions against Russia.
“The decision of the U.S. Senate raises her those same questions to the Chancellor of the Kern and Minister Gabriel. To put it mildly, a strange step, ” said Seibert.
“This should not happen. We reject sanctions with extraterritorial effect, which impact on third countries “, – said the representative of the German government.
Note that yesterday the Minister of foreign Affairs of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel, and Federal Chancellor of Austria, Christian Kern criticized the tightening of sanctions against Russia by the U.S. Senate.
