Earlier in mass media appeared information that in 2018 MediaTek could become a supplier of modems for the iPhone in the deteriorating relationship between Apple and its former supplier Qualcomm.

Rick Tsai declined to comment on rumors of a possible partnership with the American Corporation, but noted that MediaTek plans to increase investments in the US, where Taiwanese chip maker underrepresented and to expand the staff in the country. According to a top Manager in the United States from MediaTek about 600 employees, most of whom are engaged in research and development. In total the company employs about 16 thousand people.
