Russia’s plans to strengthen its military presence on the Kuril Islands “contrary to Japan’s position in respect of these areas.” This is the statement of the Secretary-General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan Acehide Suga.
So Suga commented on the words of defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, who said in the state Duma that Russia plans to 2017 “to complete the placement division” on the Kuril Islands.
According to the Secretary-General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan, the placement division will be discussed at the meeting of the heads of the Ministry of defense and Ministry of foreign Affairs of the two countries, scheduled for March 20 in Tokyo.
The Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during his speech in the state Duma did not specify the composition of the division, placed in the Kuril Islands. From the end 1970-x of years in the Kuril Islands is the 18th machine gun-artillery division.
