It became known how many Ukrainians consider Russian their native language

Social scientists have shared the results of recent research.

During the years of independence the language question in Ukraine is incredibly heightened, including through the active participation of Russia

According to research of Institute of sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, about 30% of Ukrainians want to grant the Russian language official status. While 54% of citizens are strongly against such initiatives.

Traditionally for Ukraine the opinion of the citizens vary a lot depending on the region. For example, in the West against the Russian language speak as much as 88% of the population, only 4%. However, in the East the opinion of the Ukrainians are already absolutely another – the language of the invaders support 45% of the population are against same — 38%.

Even in the Donbass, which supposedly wants to “Russian world” against the initiative gave voice to 14%, another 55% — supported.

While 73% of respondents named Ukrainian as their native language, Russian — 9%. Approximately every fifth inhabitant considers himself native to both languages.

However, according to sociology, the number of Russian speakers in Ukraine over the last 20 years has decreased by 10%.
