A Federal court in Brooklyn sentenced the 62-year-old native of Russia, Alexander Posobilov to eleven years and three months in prison on charges of illegal export of microelectronics for about $50 million.
Reportedly, Posobilov “helped running a criminal operation, through lies and fraud and get profit from the illegal sale and export of American high-tech microelectronics, which was used by the Russian military”.
According to the materials of the case, he along with his accomplices was involved in the activities of the two companies ARC Electronics and Apex System, founded by Russian immigrants.
It is also noted that the convicted person was engaged in money laundering.
Posobilov moved to the U.S. from Russia in 2001 and in 2008 became an American citizen. In 2008-2012, he led a group of sales agents, purchasing from American suppliers electronics, the turnover of which is subject to state control. Information about the final buyer was a fugitive from suppliers and the Ministry of Commerce of the United States. Subsequently the goods were resold to companies, subordinate to the defense Ministry of the Russian Federation, and also in the research division of the FSB.
