In St. Petersburg closed the dam because of the threat of flooding

Expected “dangerous flooding.”

In St.-Petersburg in connection with a possible increase in the water level in the Neva river to dangerous levels, it was decided to close the gates of the Complex of protective constructions (KZS). About it reported in Department of information support of activity of EMERCOM of Russia EMERCOM of Russia for Saint-Petersburg.

Cross-sections of the dam began closing at 05:50. It is expected that by 13:00 the excess water level in the water area of the Neva Bay will reach 181 cm, which is considered as a “dangerous flooding.”

Moreover, temporarily halted movement of ships at Kronstadt ship fairway. Thus, according to EMERCOM in St. Petersburg, on the morning of March 9 at the entrance to the town are three cargo ship.

Under forecasts of weather forecasters, March 9 in the city is expected wind gusts of 15-20 m/s and the increase in water level, which can lead to intensive destruction of the ice cover of the Neva.

It is noted that at seven o’clock in the morning the entrance to the city was expecting three cargo vessels.
