In Korea invented the “soft” OLED display

Make a flexible display — not an easy task.

Many developers are trying to solve it in different ways, trying to create a soft, durable screen, which would bend and twist without damage to its structure.

One of the options the basis of this display — the fabric, but there are certain problems. First, the roughness of the material, secondly, to bend such screens is bad, and soon fell into disrepair. Experts of the Korean Institute of advanced technology KAIST was able to solve these problems, developing displays, organic LEDs woven into clothing.

First, scientists attempted to make displays on the fabric with a compatible diode, a thin polymer layer, but then came to the conclusion that it is best to cover diodes fabric in another way. What later applied the special method of immersion, which allowed us to place the polymer LEDs evenly across the surface of the fabric. So they were able to obtain bright displays on fabrics of different densities, including the subtle.

“Screens integrated into the fabric of our daily clothes are no longer a technology of the future, and cloth that can display on information is of great importance for the textile industry, so we want to create the most efficient and bright displays of fabrics”, — said the head of the research laboratory KAIST Kyung-Chul Choi.

But even if they textile displays will be created, scientists have to solve many tasks. Any clothing must be periodically erased, so you need to make the screens resistant to water and aggressive media. In addition, there is a problem with the power supply.
