Five proven ways, certainly spasmic migraine

A migraine is worse than usual headaches.

Migraine pain can be debilitating, sudden, or accompanied by a variety of disorders, such as severe nausea, distortion of vision, difficulty speaking, numbness of the fingers.

Attacks may last a few hours. People may begin to experience migraine attacks since childhood, and their frequency usually increases up to 35-40 years. Migraine pain three times more common in women, they have the same attacks may last longer.

Numerous studies have linked migraine with a significant decrease in quality of life and violation of disability. It is known that migraine attacks are associated with increased risk of ischemic stroke.

What methods of treatment and prevention of seizures can offer modern medicine?

Today we will talk about five of the most popular approaches to this problem abroad.

1. Over-the-counter and prescription drugs for migraine

The primary method of migraine treatment today is medication:

• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

These include popular painkillers – naproxen, ibuprofen, diclofenac, acetylsalicylic acid, and combination of drugs based on them. This is the most popular treatment for migraine in the world, selling millions of packages annually. Despite their relative cheapness, availability, and security, NSAIDs can only help the migraine pain of mild to moderate intensity, and not all patients.

• Triptan.

A group of drugs triptans act as agonists of serotonin receptors, selectively activates a given group of receptors in the brain. A serotonin deficiency is often associated with migraines, and triptan will help to restore serotonin receptors. Unfortunately, they are not effective in all patients.

• Ergotamine.

This natural chemical compound may stop the migraine pain. Ergotamine is recommended only for those patients who have seizures are observed infrequently. Ergotamine is a powerful vasoconstrictor, narrowing blood vessels. In view of the adverse cardiovascular effects of the drug should not be used often.

Doctors advise to drink ANTIMIGRAINE drugs at the first symptoms – it increases the effectiveness of treatment.

Since nausea is present in many patients with migraine, antiemetics (antiemetics) are appointed as auxiliary means. Often patients have to take anti-hypertensive, anticonvulsant, antidepressants.

2. Nutritional supplements for migraine

Food additives are widely used for the treatment of migraine, being safe and well portable:

• Coenzyme Q10.

Recent studies show that coenzyme Q10 together with preventive medications can reduce the frequency, duration and intensity of migraine attacks.

• Riboflavin (vitamin B2).

Judging by the latest scientific evidence, Riboflavin protects the nervous system, and can the destructive effect of migraines on the structures and functions of the brain.

• Magnesium.

The mineral magnesium plays an important role in many metabolic processes and the regulation of blood pressure. Some scholars argue that supplementation with magnesium reduces the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks.

• Melatonin.

Mysterious hormone melatonin regulates sleep and wakefulness in mammals, but also counteracts oxidative stress in plant organisms. European researchers believe melatonin is one of the most promising prophylactic agents in migraine, effective and safe.

• Butterbur.

Extracts of the plant petasites hybridus (Petasites hybridus) is used to prevent migraine attacks. Popular in Europe, less common in North America and Asia.

3. Neyromoduliruyuschim therapy for migraine

An innovative method called neyromoduliruyuschim therapy (neuromodulation therapy) is to stimulate the brain and spinal cord with the aim of influencing the function of the nervous system. Sometimes to stimulate the use of implantable devices.

Neyromoduliruyuschim therapy for migraine is FDA approved and is used in leading us hospitals. We are talking about the so-called single-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation (sTMS), in which the emitter on the patient’s head generates magnetic pulses and “change” activities of the affected nerve cells.

The second method, percutaneous supraorbital nerve stimulation (t-SNS) operates in a similar manner. Only emitter is on the temple, sending magnetic pulses to the supraorbital nerve. Method approved by the FDA for prevention of seizures.

4. Meditation techniques

The possibilities of meditation for stress, pain, and neurological diseases is actively studied. A number of researchers argues that meditation techniques over time, increase pain threshold and make it easier to migrate migraine attacks.

The authors of one project worked with patients who have severe migraine were not allowed to work and lead a normal life. They randomly divided into four groups practicing different meditative techniques. Few weeks it became clear that the technique of the so-called “spiritual meditation” significantly increased the pain threshold and even reduced the frequency of attacks.

Other techniques, including progressive muscle relaxation have proven less effective in treating migraines.

5. Acupuncture

Acupuncture from ancient times used for chronic pain. “Journal of the American medical Association” reported that acupuncture reduces the frequency of migraine attacks without aura, not accompanied by visual and cognitive impairment.

According to scientists, acupuncture for migraine – remedy # 1 for those who want to try non-drug treatment.
