VTSIOM: more than half of Russians do not want their children to study abroad

“Where was born there and handy”

59% of Russians would not like that their children received higher education abroad. Often this position is shared by citizens from 45 to 59 years (63%) and older than 60 years (70%). On the contrary, a third of Russians would like their children or grandchildren have received higher education abroad (30%). In fact, for their children was a foreign diploma, are primarily interested young people aged 18 to 24 (51%) and 25 to 34 years (43%). These are the findings of opinion polls. They are published on the website of the organization.

The main reason for the lack of desire to send children abroad to study is satisfaction with the quality of national education — 39% believe that it is in our country decent and no worse than foreign. The same citizens would want their children to study and work in Russia, the principle of “where was born there and was useful” (39%). Another important factor for the reluctance to send children to study abroad, the cheapness of Russian education in comparison with foreign (13%). Every tenth scared to let their children and grandchildren abroad (9%) — they believe that children should be closer to her parents.

The main reason for stimulating the desire to send their children or grandchildren to study abroad is the belief that the abroad quality (modern, advanced, prestigious) education (47%). An important motif is the hope that the children or grandchildren will be higher chance to find an interesting job with a high salary (15%). Also, the respondents believe that their children should study in a country with a high standard of living (13%), or want to have a child was international diploma (12%).

In the list of the countries where their children or grandchildren could go to learn, lead England (38%), Germany (19%) and USA (16%).
