This popular vegetable significantly reduces the chances of getting cancer

Daily consumption of tomatoes is effective for the prevention of progression of cancer, including skin cancer, the risk of which is reduced in two times. To such conclusion experts from the University of Ohio(USA).

The results of a three-year study is based on a series of experiments with mice. Rodents were fed a ten percent tomato powder, and then subjected to UV radiation.

Later, scientists found that animals who consumed tomato product, malignant skin tumors decreased by about 50%.

According to study co-researcher in the College of food, agricultural, and environmental Sciences Ohio state Jessica Kuperstock, the benefits of tomatoes is associated with the presence of carotenoids (antioxidants), which have the ability to protect the body from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.

Scientists have noted that the most effective way with the development of cancer fighting lycopene (a carotenoid pigment) of fresh tomatoes.
