This berry is especially useful for stomach

Those who are not able to refrain from drinking alcohol, you can at least minimize the damage of mucous membrane of the stomach, if they eat a strawberry, scientists say. A team of Italian, Serbian and Spanish researchers has confirmed the protective effect possessed by this berry, after experiments on rats.

Dr. Sara Tulipani from the University of Barcelona, explains that “the positive effects of strawberries are not only associated with its antioxidant properties, but also because it activates the antioxidant defense and enzymes of the body.”

The studies show that a diet rich in strawberries can have a positive effect, if we are talking about the prevention of gastric diseases related to generation of free radicals or other reactive oxygen species, according to a paper published scientists in the journal Public Library of Science One .

In addition, according to them, the strawberries can also slow down the formation of stomach ulcers in humans. Gastritis or inflammation of the gastric mucosa associated with alcohol consumption, but also can be caused by a viral infection or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. aspirin). Scientists conducted an experiment on rats: for 10 days they were given daily is 40 milligrams of strawberry extract per kilogram of body weight. Then, the rats given alcohol and analyzed the condition of their stomachs. It appeared that those rodents who drank the extract, ulcers were smaller than the rest.
