An international team of scientists have discovered that pulsars are not the source of excessive number of positrons (antiparticles to electrons) arriving to Earth from outside the Solar system. A study published in Science.

Observations on the gamma ray Observatory HAWC (High Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory) in Mexico showed that from the pulsars Geminga and PSR B0656+14 to the Ground does not reach a sufficient number of positrons. Previously, these objects were considered the most likely source first discovered in 2008, elevated concentrations of positrons in the upper atmosphere.

Scientists believe that Geminga and PSR B0656+14 is surrounded by a cloud of matter that absorbs the radiation of pulsars, in particular, the positrons. Experts do not know what could be the source of excessive number of positrons reaching the Earth. It is not excluded that its origin antielectrons are required of dark matter.
