Until the end of 2017 in Swiss trains you can ride in the company of Alfred Escher, a pioneer in the field of railway transport and the founder of Credit Suisse, the second largest Bank of Switzerland. His wooden sculpture, made in full growth of oak, will accompany passengers on different routes during the year.
The first route “wooden” Escher runs through the Gotthard tunnel.
The statue was made in the framework of the campaign #Woodveti initiated by the forestry and wood industry, as well as the Federal office for the environment Switzerland. So the authorities are planning to draw attention to the Swiss wood.
The statue was made from oak grown in the woods of Regensdorf in the Canton of Zurich.
Alfred Escher was born in 1819. His main business as an entrepreneur is the construction of the Gotthard railway.
