The President of Germany made tough warning to Russia

Steinmeier urged Moscow not to interfere in parliamentary elections in Germany.

The President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier warned Russia against attempts to interfere in elections to the Bundestag, which will be held in Germany on September 24.

“If it comes to that, Moscow will try to influence the outcome of the vote, it will lead to inevitable future exhaustion of the reserve of common values, which was left to the two countries. As for the one and for the other side it would be disastrous”, he warned.

As noted by the Federal President, the alienation between Europe and Russia continues to grow for the past decade and a half. Moscow builds its identity rather, by distancing from Europe and the West than with finding common ground to interact with them.

This situation has worsened in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea and military intervention of Russia in Eastern Ukraine, said Steinmeier.

“In this regard, at the moment, you should not expect the unexpected rapprochement between Europe and Russia”, – he predicts.
