The Danish Parliament on 30 November to pass a law that will give the government the right to prohibit projects in the Danish territorial waters, citing the threat to national security.
This is reported by Izvestia with reference to the interlocutors in the three parliamentary parties of the country.
“In Copenhagen does not hide the fact that de facto new bill is directed against the main projects of Russia in Europe – gas pipeline Nord stream-2, which should take place including through the territorial waters of Denmark. In a press-service of the company said that concerned about the position of Copenhagen. However, the new law will not stop the project and force simply to adjust the route,” – says the publication.
The publication also notes that the company Nord stream-2 not yet say how it may change the configuration of the future pipeline. However, the official representative Nord stream-2 Jens Mueller in the conversation admitted that the company is closely watching the developments in Denmark and about the possible alternatives.
“Any developer in this situation has to consider all the available replacement options. While this reassessment is ongoing, and to talk about the details is premature,” said Mueller.
A final vote on the new bill, scheduled for 30 November, said the MP from the main ruling Liberal party, also a member of the Committee for foreign policy, Michael Aastrup Jensen. This means that already at the beginning of 2018, the act can enter into force.
The only Danish party, she is not fundamentally opposed to pipeline construction – right people’s party, member of the ruling coalition. However, this political force also intends to support the bill, said a party member Marie Krarup. She said that Denmark should have the right to say “Yes” or “no” to what is constructed on its territory.
“I think Parliament will block the construction of the project in Danish territorial waters. At the same time Denmark is not able to block the Northern flow-2 as a whole, but will be able to force its management to change the route,” said Krarup.
Also, the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Poland prepared a report on Nord stream-2, which control the pipeline shall be transferred to an independent operator.
According to Vedomosti, that Gazprom will lose significant income from pumping gas. According to Polish authorities, the construction is subject to the laws of the European Union, collectively known as the Third energy package. This is due to the fact that the pipe will be laid in the territorial waters of Denmark and Germany – the countries-EU members. A legal opinion handed to the European Commission.
