Sweet soda leads to diabetes

Daily consumption of sugary drinks increases the risk of developing diabetes of the 2nd type.

Scientists from the Institute of medical research QIMR Berghofer and the Open University, Sukhothai Thammathirat, Thailand has proved that sugary drinks cause type II diabetes.

If the Thai people have given up soda, it would be possible to prevent more thousands of cases of the disease.

Materials of the scientific work published in the specialized edition.

Researchers examined data on about 40 thousand people gathered for 2005-2013. After the mediation analysis failed to detect the danger posed by sugary drinks. It turned out that every year around the world kill millions of patients with diabetes.

Several countries, such as Australia, Mexico, USA, France, Chile understood the problem and started to act by introducing a tax on sugar. As a result, the U.S. residents reduced their consumption of beverage of 17-21%.

“At risk are women, because they are more receptive to glucose and often use soft drinks.

In the period from 1983 to 2009, sugar consumption in Thailand increased from 13 to 31 kg per person per year, which is unacceptable and dangerous to the health of the population. Local authorities should pay attention to the problem and act according to the method of other countries,” – said the study’s author, Mrs. Papier.
