Soviet cartoons, who conquered international audiences. Photo

World’s most popular cartoons from the Soviet Union.

Our commitment to the old Soviet cartoons clear. We watch them from childhood, then reviewing … again laughing and grust. But our favorite heroes are known far beyond the former Soviet Union. Cartoons of the USSR — is a different era of animation, special genre. A creation of the brilliant Soviet Directors still have a significant impact on the work of recognized guru of world animation.

Here are just five of them, but it’s the best of the best.

“The snow Queen” (1957)

In the list of the best of the best pictures of the USSR is the famous masterpiece of the Director Leo Atamanova created at Soyuzmultfilm, the main Soviet multi-film Studio. The cartoon was translated into many languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Japanese, and that’s not counting all the dialects of the former USSR. And the main characters were voiced by stars of world cinema. For example, French ice Queen spoke in a voice of Catherine Deneuve, and us Gerda was voiced by Kirsten dunst.
As in the Soviet Union, the USA in the 60-70-ies of “the Snow Queen” regularly shown on TV during the winter holidays.

Few people know that it is in “the Snow Queen” was first tested the technology without which modern cinema is hard to imagine – live action. The main character first played by a living person – actress Maria Babanova (hence, they have similar facial features and shapes), and then the image with the film turned into a cartoon.

“Well, wait!” (1969 – 1993)

The ratings of the most recognizable paintings of the former USSR has been consistently rated animated series “Nu, pogodi!”. Serial adventures the wolf and the Hare — the result of the desire of Nikita Khrushchev, who, after a trip to the US was under the impression from the American animation to prove that we were not born yesterday. Followed the instruction to “catch up and overtake” and we answer them “Tom and Jerry” allocated quite a serious budget, and all together gave a picture to world fame.

Originally directed by Vyacheslav Kotenochkin assumed that Wolf will be voiced by the Beatles, but the actor at the time was in disgrace, so to participate in the project attracted Anatoly Papanova, hoarse voice which became the hallmark of the image of the cartoon character. But referring to Vysotsky is still there — in the first series of Wolf whistles the melody of the song from the movie “Vertical”.

The famous couple of the Hare-the Wolf still remains one of the most colorful and comical duets of Soviet animation, and across many countries. So, released in 1984 pocket computer game “electronics” is literally scattered in the countries of the Soviet Union and was produced for export to Europe. The Japanese programmers of the Nintendo Entertainment System based on “Well, pogodi!” created the game “I’ll Get You” (“I’ll catch you”). In 2010, the year the Mint of Poland even issued a commemorative collector coin with the image of a Hare and a Wolf.

“There once was a dog” (1982)

The result of a year working on the script, Eduard Nazarov, who justly appreciated and the audience and the critics, is one of the most popular Soviet cartoons, famous in the world.
The famous “Well, you come in, if that” love not only Soviet audiences a true story of friendship between Wolf and Dog, loosely based on a Ukrainian folk tale, won a few international film festivals, including Oginski film festival (Denmark), and festival called Annecy located in (France).

Incidentally, recognizable now Wolf could look very different. Had to be completely redrawn under the husky voice of Armen Dzhigarkhanyan. Interestingly, duplicate this cartoon (at least in the English version) no-one dares, because otherwise it will ruin the whole chic voice in the performance, the Maestro — if the cartoon and show it with subtitles, to the famous “Shaw, again?” was perceived by foreign viewers exactly as it should.

By the way, the sound of people leaving the carts at the beginning of the cartoon Eduard Nazarov borrowed from the film “Chapaev”.

A monument to happiness — the 200-pound statue eating up the blade Wolf is one of the most popular places in Tomsk. If you are lucky enough correctly to “scratch” his belly, you can hear his signature phrase — “right now I sing!”, “God help you!”, “Well, you come in, if that.”

“Crocodile Gena and Cheburashka” (1969-1983)

The first film about the unknown creature called “Crocodile Gena”. Eared hero invented animator Leonid Shvartsman, and the name of a nonexistent animal Eduard Uspensky came to mind when he heard from a friend that addressed to his clumsy daughter said: “Oh, again cheburechnoy!”, which means “to fall”.

After the demonstration of a series of cycle festivals, tender feelings to the strange eared-fluffy kindled in many countries of the world. So, in the 70-ies in Sweden in the past and the Genes were cycle of children’s radio and television called “Drutten” (from the Swedish. drutta – fall). For shows on European television, “Cheburashka” is also translated, in the English and American versions, he became Toplam (Topple), in the German – Killergram (Kullerchen) or, in a later version, Plumpton (Plumps) and the Finnish – Axiom (Muksis). Every translation is a reference to the unknown ability of the animal to fall. However, the Japanese took Cheburashka with open arms, not rewarding any nicknames – there he remained Cheburashka (チェブラーシカ), and your feature film in 2015.

Song of the Crocodile Genes sounds in Finnish, Japanese, English, German, Swedish, Bulgarian, Polish and other languages.

By the way, foreigners facing with the Cheburashka in the souvenir shops, it is considered aerobatics to pronounce the word correctly the first or even third time.

“Hedgehog in the fog” (1975)

Most of the most — wandering in the fog Hedgehog Yuri Norstein. At the festival in Tokyo in 2003, the cartoon was voted best picture of all times and peoples. And amazing the audience and the experts find in the cartoon all from the idea and humor to technical performance, music and colors.

The basis of the “Hedgehog” on the eponymous fairy tale by Sergei Kozlov, who played Norshtejna, went far beyond a children’s cartoon, having a depth of philosophical parables, where each screen image can be seen as a symbol, and the action can be interpreted in several keys. The Director believes that: “There is no intrigue in action, there is no dynamics of the action. It is likely that in the “Hedgehog in the fog” there was a happy match all elements.”

The appearance of the main character is obligated to his wife Norstein — Francesca Yarbusova. The animators tried many variants, the appearance of future “stars” is constantly changing. The Director was not satisfied with the proposed options, he needed someone who even after of instant must be “imprinted” on the screen… In the end, Arbusova, wife and part-time artist, has painted such a hero, who the Director was satisfied, and the world conquered.

The Hedgehog was voiced by actress Maria Vinogradova, a voice which spoke also Dyadya Fedor from Buttermilk.

But those who visited Kiev for sure, you have a photo with a fanciful figure of the surprised Hedgehog.
