Sensational discovery in Egypt: new details

First, experts believed that the huge statue of Ramses II also known as Ramses the Great.

An ancient sculpture that was pulled from a swamp in Cairo, was not the Pharaoh Ramses II and probably other ruler.

It is reported the Egyptian Minister of antiquities.

According to Halada Anani, the statue almost certainly represents Pharaoh Psammetichus I, who ruled 664-610 BC

Earlier this week, experts said that the stone figure was created in honor of Ramses, which was in power for 600 years before because she was found near the temple dedicated to this ruler.

But then on the statue found carved one of the five names Psammetichus.

Despite this, the finding is still important, said Mr Anani.

“If it depicts this Pharaoh, it is the sculpture of the Late period ever found in Egypt,” he told reporters.

The name of the Pharaoh found in the figure after they removed her from the place of occurrence at the Museum in Central Cairo.

Two large fragments of sculpture that had once been nine feet tall, was found by a team of Egyptian and German archaeologists.
Now experts hope to combine the head and torso of the statue.
