Earlier estimates included only breeding pairs of Adelie penguins that inhabit Antarctica, is losing sight of individuals: those do not nest on land, mostly hunting in the sea. However, with the help of ground and aerial filming over several seasons the researchers were able to collect more accurate data.
A colony of Adelie penguins across the Antarctic. The period from October to February, the birds spend mostly on the beach, nesting and multiplying. They nest in rocky areas not covered by ice. There are usually set up camp researchers. The proximity to the penguins allows them to identify which populations need protection.
