For a long time, archaeologists have puzzled over how the level of technology of the Bronze age was built the great pyramid of Cheops one of the seven wonders of the world.
The 147-foot Great pyramid remained one of the tallest buildings in the world until the middle Ages.Egyptologists now know how delivered blocks of stone from the Tour, which is 13 kilometers from Giza.
According to scientists, 170 of thousands of blocks of limestone, weighing 2.5 tons each, were transported in wooden boats on a network of specially dug canals. They were taken to a makeshift harbour right at the base of the Great pyramid.
The tip was discovered in the ancient scroll of papyrus, put in a ceremonial funerary boat of the Pharaoh Khufu in 2600 BC. The scroll is described as carrying blocks as they dug the canals and built a giant dam to direct the water of the Nile for him. The document was signed by supervisor by the name of Merer responsible for a team of 40 workers.
However, given the huge distances, the archaeologists could not come to a consensus regarding the method of transportation.
Point in the fierce debate put find Brand Lehner, which found traces of water channels under the base of the Giza plateau. “We have outlined a pool and a network of canals that lead to the base of the pyramid”, – said the archaeologist.
The team also restored the ancient boats to understand how they were made. It turns out that the wooden planks were sewn with ropes and tightly fitted to each other.
