In Iraq, scientists have discovered a sensational find

Archaeologists have found a city founded by Alexander the Great.

Using photos from drones and declassified intelligence images, the archaeologists found a city in Iraq that were considered lost for more than 2000 years.

Archaeologists have found a city founded by Alexander Walkingand Qalatga Darband was founded in 331 BC by Alexander the Great, and was re-opened by a team of Iraqi and British archaeologists led by experts from the British Museum.

Initially, the location has come to the attention of archaeologists after the publication of declassified photos of the CIA in the 1960-ies, which appear to show a plan of the ruins.

Then, the project Manager, John McGinnis, and his colleagues used unmanned aerial vehicles to detect the contours of the buildings, which for centuries had lain under the ground.

Greek coins and statues of Greco-Roman deities, indicating the correct direction of the search were also found in the place in Iraqi Kurdistan.

The British Museum employees are trained experts on Iraqi heritage in the framework of the government-funded programme designed to help archaeologists to protect objects of historical significance in areas of the Middle East that have been severely affected by the conflict.
