Researchers from the University of California have found that black tea contributes to weight reduction and maintaining healthy intestinal flora. In particular, the use of tea extract animals the percentage of bacteria associated with obesity in the gut decreases.
Previously it was thought that to lose weight helpful green tea as polyphenols from the drink change energy metabolism in the liver. New results show that the polyphenols of black tea, which are too large to be absorbed in the small intestine, stimulate the growth of intestinal bacteria, which have been shown, too, may change energy metabolism in the liver.
“It was known that the polyphenols in green tea are more effective and bring more benefits to health than black tea polyphenols, because of the chemical substances in green tea are absorbed into the blood and tissue. Our new data indicate that black tea through the intestinal microbiome may also contribute to good health and weight loss in humans, ” said Sasan Henning, lead author of the study.
In the course of the study, we used mice which were divided into four groups. In each of the groups was their diet. In this case two groups of rodents received the extracts of black or green tea.
It turned out that both black and green tea changed the ratio of intestinal bacteria in animals. The proportion of microorganisms associated with obesity, decreased, while the number of bacteria associated with normal body weight increased.
