Scientists have named the first sign of senile dementia

The results of studies of Japanese scientists.

A study of the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease (the most common form of senile dementia, or dementia), conducted in Japan, showed that the suspect the beginning of this disease can be deteriorating ability to remember human faces. Conclusion this was done by researchers from the University of Kumamoto.

In the experiment participated two groups of volunteers: in one there were 18 people with mild cognitive impairment suggestive of early dementia, the other with people with no cognitive problems. Comparing MRI images of the brain revealed that people from the first group observed structural changes in areas of the brain responsible for memory and visual recognition.

This feature clearly correlated with the data of test subjects. People were shown a certain object, ask them from lots of other images to find similar to it. For example, such a task belonged to the selection of similar individuals and buildings.

Watching how the participants consider these pictures, the authors have seen people with mild cognitive impairment with faces is much worse than those who do not have these problems. It was found that if healthy people with the aim of remembering paying attention primarily on the other person’s eyes, patients with primary dementia look for some reason on the mouth.

Probably affected by changes in their brain, experts have suggested.
