The fact that many vegetarians eat no whole grains with high concentration of sugars. And it increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
In General, researchers analyzed three types of diets-for example, more than 200,000 people. The first diet consisted of foods both plant and animal origin, the second – wholegrain products, berries, vegetables and fruits, the third vegetarian, but processed grains, fried potatoes and sweet beverages.
The influence of the diets was estimated for 20 years. At the beginning of the study none of the volunteers had coronary heart disease, cancer, and stroke.
During the study, about 9,000 people had developed coronary heart disease. Less often problems have called for people to adhere to the second type of diet. But the first and the third diets significantly increased the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Scientists say: not all vegetarian diets are useful, and one only by giving up animal products is not enough.
