Scientists from the German society of Nephrology reported the negative impact of overweight on the health of the kidneys. It is not only an indirect effect through the increase in blood pressure, but also on the direct harm caused by the processes in fat, said the physicians.
Cells of adipose tissue secrete a number of peptide hormones: adiponectin, leptin, resistin. These hormones contribute to the development of inflammatory processes and oxidative stress, negatively affect the metabolism, promoting insulin resistance and increased insulin levels in the blood. The combination of these processes can cause glomerulopathy (disease of the vascular glomeruli of the kidneys) and decreased renal function.
The number of glomerulopathy caused by overweight in Germany for the past 30 have increased ten-fold, according to the German society of Nephrology. In the coming years the growth of renal diseases requires the use of more active preventive measures.
