Overheating in the sun: rules of first aid

Hot summer is not only sea, sun and many other pleasant moments, but also the very real danger to health.

Among these dangers is the thermal shock that occurs when the body can no longer cope with regulators. Become the victim of a severe heat stroke is possible under seemingly adequate temperature 35 to 40 degrees, if it’s too long to be in a hostile environment.

There are three degrees of severity of heat stroke:

I degree: the victim observed a General weakness, increased heartbeat and breathing, headache, nausea;

Grade II: characterized by headache, nausea and vomiting, loss of consciousness, increased body temperature to 40 degrees;

The THIRD degree is manifested by confusion, arrhythmia, high fever, convulsions, hallucinations and, in the absence of timely assistance, even coma.

During the hot summer days you need to be especially attentive to others: often the person may become ill in public transport or just on the street, and your help could save his life. If you notice someone who looks pale, ill standing on his feet, holding his heart or his head, ask him if he needed any help. In the case of a positive answer, first call an ambulance, but before her arrival carry out a number of manipulations:

place the victim on his back in the shade or any other cool place, raise his head;

unbutton the collar or the victim undress to the waist (clothes made from synthetic or heavy fabrics, be sure to remove);

wipe the body with wet cool towel (handkerchief, cloth), wet the face, cool the head with a cold compress;

if the person is unconscious, try to rouse him with ammonia;

when the victim returns to consciousness, give him drink cool water.

After first aid, wait for the arrival of the doctor, who will assess the casualty’s condition and give recommendations. Usually the patient is recommended to drink plenty of liquids and bed rest for several days, as in the next period the risk of repeated heat stroke is very high.
