Oily fish is able to save from senile dementia

American scientists have shared important study.

Scans of the brain for the first time proved that eating large amounts of fatty fish like sardines and salmon protects against senile dementia. The therapeutic effect is achieved by increasing blood supply to the brain and enhance memory.

A brain scan for the first time in the history of science has proven that eating large amounts of fatty fish prevents the development of senile dementia by increasing blood flow to the brain. Fatty acids omega-3 contained in oily fish increase blood flow to areas of the brain that control memory and learning. Both of these areas are destroyed in the course of neurological disorders, as the researchers remind. People who consume large amounts of fatty fish, also are better at learning and understanding new information. Finally, eating fatty fish strengthens the overall emotional health of a person.

“This is a very important study as it shows a correlation between low amount of fatty acids omega-3 and decrease in blood flow to areas of the brain important for learning, memory, development of depression and dementia – as the scientists of the Amen Clinics in California. We made our conclusions based on brain scans 166 people in a specialized clinic. Brain activity was assessed by measuring blood flow”.

Study participants were divided into two groups depending on the amount of fatty acids they used. The results showed that the participants in the first group with the highest level of omega-3 received the most comprehensive supply of blood to areas of the brain associated with memory storage and learning. Their emotional health was also stronger compared to those who ate less omega-3.
