NBU for the first time commented on the popular cryptocurrency

Up to this point the Ukrainian side tried to distance themselves from this issue.

Bitcoin now has no specific legal status in Ukraine. This was said by Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Oleg Churiy on the official website of the regulator in Facebook.

“Definition of such a status is complicated by the lack of a consolidated approach to the classification and regulation of bitcoin transactions in the world,” writes CORI.

He noted that in a number of countries of operations with cryptocurrency is officially permitted. Usually they are considered as a commodity or investment asset for tax purposes are subject to the relevant legislation. In some countries, the bitcoin recognized monetary unit, said Churi.

“..in different countries klassificeret bitcoin for virtual currency, a substitute for money, the intangible value of virtual goods and the like. For its part, the national Bank of Ukraine has yet to officially support either of the above definitions,” – said Deputy head of the NBU.

He added that a common position concerning the legal status of cryptocurrencies and its regulation, the national Bank initiated a dialogue with the Ministry of Finance, State fiscal service, the State service for financial monitoring, the National Commission on securities and stock market, as well as the National Commission, carrying out state regulation in the sphere of financial services markets.
